The Bells and the Ringers
The bells are rung prior to Sunday morning services, festivals as well as weddings and other special occasions.

For Remembrance Sunday the bells are rung half muffled.

Anyone who is interested in learning to ring is welcome. Practice night is Monday at 7.30pm.

The Church has 6 bells
The lowest in tone, known as ' The Tenor ' is in F#. The highest in tone is known as the ' Treble '.
The weights vary from 4cwts. 3qts. 11lbs. to 12cwts. 1qtr. 22lbs.

The earliest record of our church bells is in the official Inventory submitted at Saltwood Church in 1552, which is in the Public Records Office in London. We believe that a peal of bells remained in existence until a new peal was cast in 1723 by John Waylett. There they remained until 1912. In 1911 a member of the firm of Mears and Stainbank was invited to visit the Church Belfry and examine the bells. ( This firm was responsible for Big Ben, the Bow Bells and the Liberty Bell, together with many other famous rings ).

CHANGE RINGING
The origins of change ringing lie in the sixteenth century when church bells began to be hung with a full wheel. This gave ringers control of their bell, which allowed sets of bells (rings) to be rung in a continuously changing pattern.
Music is created by moving bells up and down the ringing order to a defined sequence of changes known as a method.
Learning a few simple methods allows ringers to join in with other bands in towers around the world.

BELFRY PRAYER
We beseech thee, O Heavenly Father,
to pour Thy grace into the hearts of those who work for Thee
in ringing the bells of the church,
Grant that we may never forget the sacredness of Thy House,
nor profane it by thoughtlessness or irreverence,
but make us ever mindful that,
when we ring the bells we ring for Thy honour and glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The following are the details of the individual bells. Each one has a Latin inscription which is translated below:
