USPG - Emerging vision.
We've been doing some visioning recently and after much prayer and discussion, we believe we've come up with some exciting stuff.
For example, by 2011 we expect to see our work expand in Ethiopia.
We want to see strong churches reaching out to their surrounding villages.

Andrew and Janice are based at St Matthew's Church in Addis Ababa, where they have developed the church's outreach programmes, which recently saw them helping to repatriate many Sudanese refugees.

USPG has been in partnership with the Anglican Church in Ethiopia for many years. St Matthew's is the original and main Anglican Church. It has a congregation of over 200, with 20 or more different nationalities represented within it, only 20 per cent of whom are cradle Anglicans.

In addition to developing their ministry among the Christian community in Addis, the Prouds have helped change the lives of families in the Kabele (urban villages) by supplying school materials, uniforms and fees for children. They have also planted several churches. Over the next few years, Andrew and Janice plan to train leaders and encourage them to further develop the church's outreach work that they have begun, with a particular emphasis on work with AIDS orphans.

In the western region of Ethiopia, they have established a TEE programme (theological education by extension), which is run by 14 trained tutors, currently benefiting 250 people in 24 locations and impacting many more. They have been building churches and houses for clergy; supporting the introductory workshop for the leaders of all tribal groups, to teach about natural medicines. They are currently working on a leader selection and training programme and aim to set up the Mothers Union Literacy scheme very soon. In the past, Andrew and Janice have worked extensively with Sudanese refugees, however, their work in refugee camps is coming to an end because of the peace accord in southern Sudan, which is leading to the repatriation of all refugees within the next two years.
